Giant female Atlas kneels just beneath the waves

This giant concrete sculpture of a female Atlas is the newest of several large underwater sculptures in Sir Nicholas Nutall’s Sculpture Garden off the coast of the Bahamas. It was built by Jason deCaires Taylor, who has created other large underwater sculptures elsewhere. The Nutall underwater sculpture garden is intended to take some pressure off natural reefs which are being damaged by snorkel tourism.

“I’d like to be, under the sea…in an octopus’s garden in the shade” — kinda makes you want to put on the ol’ mask & snorkel, eh?
