Nelson Mandela Memorial Sculpture

Today is the 1st anniversary of Mandela’s passing…

In tribute to the man who helped end South Africa’s racist Apartheid regime, a new poignant sculpture has been constructed on the roadside site in KwaZulu-Natal Midlands where he was arrested n 1962.  The extraordinary sculpture by artist Marco Cianfanelli comprises 50 steel columns – each between 6.5 and 9.5 metres tall, which — taken individually — are simply lumpy metal posts.  When viewed together at a suitable distance though, the forest of “trees” forms a clear profile image of Nelson Mandela.
